JumpStart aims to have an impact on South Africa’s future generations by delivering quality programmes for our beneficiaries, and by developing successful models that influence how education is delivered within the schooling system. All our programmes are underpinned by rigorous, technology-enabled M&E so that we can accurately gauge and monitor our programme outcomes and impact.
We evaluate our interventions using the Early Grade Maths Assessment (EGMA), a standardised test that enables us to track and benchmark learner and school performance. EGMA results over 2016-2018 were validated by the University of Johannesburg, which found that JumpStart has a statistically significant impact on schools and their learners – delivering the equivalent of a full year of extra maths lessons for children by the time they finish Grade 3. "We find that implementing JumpStart in clusters of at least ten schools is cost effective and creates a peer network for principals, teachers and interns. More so, by covering entire school districts we can prove that JumpStart makes a tangible difference to mathematics learning and that ours is an intervention that can be scaled."
